Technical Overview: IOGP S-562 & Supplementary Requirements to API Specification 6D Ball Valves
This page provides a quick technical overview of the IOGP S-562 specification, the global procurement standard for trunnion-mounted ball valves in the oil and gas industry. Developed under the Joint Industry Project 33 (JIP33) initiative, this framework acts strictly as a technical overlay to the parent standard, API Specification 6D, and must always be used in conjunction with it. The specification governs both soft and metal-seated valve designs for nominal sizes NPS 2 (DN 50) and above, operating within a temperature envelope of –50 °F to 302 °F. To drive cost efficiency and project standardization, it establishes uniform criteria for critical manufacturing areas, including sour service compatibility, body cavity vent and drain connections, gearbox interfaces, and blowout-proof stem retention systems.
